The structure consists of one large room, the ceiling of which is supported by four stone columns with bell-shaped bases.  Parallel to the inner walls of this room, there was a dashing stone bench at the entrances.  The outer walls, made of wide clay blocks, are decorated with frequent niches.  Each of the three walls, on the east, west, and south, had an extremely large stone entrance.  A pair of bulls secured the western entrance;  Two lamasu in the Assyrian style, albeit of colossal proportions, stood at the eastern entrance.  Above each of the four statues is an inscription in three languages attesting to Xerxes' construction and realization of the gate.  The entrance to the south, opening towards Apadana, is the widest of the three.  Pivot hardware in the inner corners of all doors indicates that they must have two-leaf doors, possibly made of wood and covered with sheets of decorative metal.
